A social responsibility initiative of Kerala Police to provide food for the needy.
Kerala Government under the instruction of the Honorable Chief Minister of Kerala has initiated ‘Community Kitchens’ to support the vulnerable sections of the society.
‘Oru Vayaroottam, Oru Visahappakatam’ (Feed a mouth) campaign aims to support and supplement the activities of Community Kitchens. It provides food to the Migrant Labourers, stranded public, officials and volunteers involved in Covid-19 activities and the homeless.
Student Police Cadets, teachers, guardians along with Police have been actively contributing to this programme. They have helped in mobilizing resources, preparing food, packing and distributing it to the most deserving human beings.
The programme which started as a humble experiment in Thiruvananthapuram, eventually gained scale and has now been extended to all the 19 police districts in the state. Food is prepared in around 24 Kitchens and distributed through Oru-Vayaroottam Centers to the beneficiaries identified through community network. Food packets were distributed to the homeless and to people who got stranded midway between their journeys. It also helped the students stranded in hostels, patients and their bystanders, guest labourers from different parts of the country and tribal population suffering from adversities in the wake of the lockdown.
The number of food packets distributed as on 03-05-2020 is 4,44,573 with an average of 25,000 food packets being distributed every day benefiting 29,030 families.
