This was established with the loan provided by the Bhagyamala Lottery run by the Kerala Police, which was a grand success. The Kerala Police Housing Co-operative Society started functioning wef 15-03-1982 with Kochi as its Headquarters. The society started very humbly with only 26 members in 1982 and by 2003 the society had more than 33,000 members and a working capital of more than Rs.3.4 crore. Various deposit schemes were introduced by the society and around Rs.10 crore deposits was collected by the society. Various loan facilities like house loan, house maintenance loan, hire purchase loan, insurance scheme etc. are available for members. More than Rs. 30 crore was distributed under various loan schemes by the society. The KPHCS is one of the best examples of forethought and management capacity of the Kerala Police leaders. Many officers like K J Joseph IPS, R N Ravi IPS, Jacob Punnoose IPS etc. toiled to make this organisation a temple for Police welfare.
