The State Police Force is observing this year (2020) as Women Safety Year. More women centric police initiatives will be initiated as part of the women safety year. The State Police Chief has directed all the ranges to set up women crime investigation wing incorporating Inspectors and women police personnel and entrust them with investigations of major crime cases in which women victims are included. As part of this, women patrolling groups will patrol at bus stops, markets, school-college premises, public places by beat or two wheelers. The project in which women police officers visit panchayath and collect petitions will be expanded. The women police officers associated with Taluk Legal Services Authority provide awareness to women in villages which stimulate them to come up in life.
The project titled 'Surakshitha' which allows women to roam freely at night was started in Kollam City on pilot basis. Successful implementation of the project prompted us to extend the initiative to other districts as well. By empowering women through such projects, Kerala Police envisages women security and thereby reducing domestic violence faced by the women in the society. It will really change the life of them for a better tomorrow. The night life project of Kerala Police encourages the women to walk anywhere in the city at night without fear. The police patrol will ensure the safety of women and curb the atrocities from the anti-social elements in the society.
