Rapid Response and Rescue Force
As per GO(MS) 267/95/Home dtd.25/08/1995, State Rapid Action Force was formed for handling riots, riotous situations arising out of religious and communal clashes. The head quarter is situated in Kolapparamba, Pandikkad Grama Panchayath, Ernad taluk , Malappuram District. This Camp comprises about 88 acres of land. As per GO(Ms)150/2009/Home Dtd.15/09/2009, SRAF was renamed as Rapid Response and Rescue Force (RRRF). This battalion had conducted Disaster Management training in collabration with National Disaster Responce Team.
This Camp is situated in Pandikkad Village in Malappuram District with a land of 88 Acres. This camp was a component of Malabar Special Police which was a former Military Police Unit of British India Army. MSP was formed in 1884 with a HQ at Malappuram. During Mopilah Revolt in 1921 the former Malabar experienced problems related to maintenance of law and order. British Govt used this camp for suppressing the native disturbances and revolts prevailed in the area. Pandikkad was an operational centre of Mopilahs concentrated. More than 300 Khilafat Activists were killed in the encounters with British police at Pandikkad. In the post independence period, MSP became the part of Madras State Police and in 1956 it was merged to the Kerala Police as the 1st Camp at Pandikkad was one of its main training camps. Armed Police Battalion and the Camp at Pandikkad was one of its main training camps. The land and buildings are handed over by MSP for the formation of SRAF.
RRRF is being deployed in four Wings in four Police Ranges .TVPM Wing at SAP, EKM Wing at ARC, Trippunithura,TSR wing at ARC, Thrissur, KNR Wing at KAP 4 Bn, KNR. RRRFis divided into three wings. QRT,DRT and VIP security wing QRT and DRT Wings are deployed in four wings at 4 Ranges. and VIP security wing is deployed in RRRF TVPM Wing only. DRT Wing personnel are being trained for Disaster Management and are absorbed into State Disaster Response Force.
